I want to plan a trip to the galapagos?

I was wondering how much it would cost to visit the galapagos islands. If anyone has been there, is there any suggestions you can offer about what to do there. I would like to spend about a week there on a boat
any ideas?

Going to the Galapagos can be a bit expensive, but worth every penny (been there 3 times). When looking at flight prices, remember there are different rates if you are a citizen of Ecuador or a foreigner.
You can get an idea of flight costs here: http://www.tame.com.ec/tame/english/home/default.asp
Tame is the airline that flies into Galapagos (from Guayaquil).
If you have the money to expend, I would recommend to take a cruise around the islands. The big pro about this is that you will travel into different islands while you sleep and therefore get to see more in less time. If money is an issue, the fly into Baltra (which is the airport if you want to stay at Santa Cruz island... where Tortuga Bay and the Charles Darwin station are) or San Cristobal. Get a hotel and find tours every day. If you do this, I recommend staying at Puerto Ayora - Santa Cruz, since you have attractions very close... walk to Tortuga Bay (find a tour that is going there and follow them, everyone has to walk there anyways!), to the Darwin Station to see Lonesome George (last giant tortoise alive from its specie - 150 years old).
You can also get one-day boat trips to other islands and get to see other cool stuff.

Oh! and remember, no matter how you get there, you have to pay a park entrance fee (usually at the airport - $100 for non-Ecuadorian).

Take a look at this website for more suggestions: http://www.ecuadorexplorer.com/html/puerto_ayora.html

well going to the Galapagos is getting rather cheap at the minute.tame is the main airline, which flys from Quito and Guayaquil, but there is another airline, sorry cant remember the name but it is in direct competition with tame and flights are around $170 dollars,(plus $100 park tax)as for boat trips prices vary with the cheaper ones sometimes turning into nightmare trips,ie no ac, crew getting drunk in port and engine breakdowns which means that they will try to put you on another smaller inferior boat,as for the dive guides on these boats, well unless you have lots of experience they can be dangerous, usually uncertified guides who go to deep and don't watch the divers under there care.i spent 5 weeks there and found that the best thing to do was take trips to the other islandsnds by small day boats and hang out on the them for a while, isla Isabel being my favorite as it's not as crowded as the main island.you can get nice beach front rooms for $15-$20 dollars at the blue whale(beluga azul or something like that)all in all you can plan your trip in a number of different ways.but bring cash as the only bank to get money from is in peurto ayora. have fun and have a wonderful trip

The boat tours I found in travel agencies in Quito were $700 and up to over $5000. I believe this included a plane ticket to Guayaquil and was an all inclusive package. The boats weren't much to speak up on the cheaper cruises and they were 3-4 days (about 7 tourists and 3-4 person crew). If you want to travel in luxury the prices rapidly go up. The cheapest week-long tour by boat was around $1000. You could also fly directly to the islands and take water taxis to the surrounding islands. The big island has the Darwin center, but the smaller islands have the penguins, blue footed boobies, seals, etc. When you get there, you won't have a problem finding something to do and it's almost impossible to make daily plans before you leave unless you pay for a package deal through your hotel because very few places have websites (and I found it was sometimes cheaper if I waited and talked to several places before I decided on a tour~you get a better idea of all the available activities for the best prices). Hope you enjoy!

Do a search on the net for travel costs and keep asking questions and follow up on all ideas that people give you can try a search for ;Galapagos islands first then go from there . I believe that it is considered a territory of Peru
