I want to travel to Costa Rica for a week in the middle of March. Where should I go? Where should I stay?

I'm a college student wanting to go on a Spring Break adventure. The budget is relatively tight, so I was wondering where I should stay and go with my roommate keeping in mind that I only have a week.
Also, how many of the people there speak English? I know un poco Espanol, but my roommate is a little nervous because she speaks ZERO Spanish.

the Puerto Viejo area is good for jungle tours and water activities. Its a small town and walking is fine or they rent mopeds and bikes and things. It is right on a beach and there are many nice beaches in either direction. Most of the cheaper places to stay were always booked when i went through. The last time I stayed in that area i went a bit south by bus to a place called manzanillo and they had really cute little motel rooms for twenty a night. It was tile floors and bug proof and even had hot water. Most the resturants by manzanillo where horrible but there was one very very good resturant on the second floor hanging out over the beach. Puerto Viejo is a better town for shopping, resturants, and touristy type stuff. They have a covered outdoor area where they show english movies after dark and serve you a meal or drinks while your watching the show. Many people are on the streets in the evening and its a really fun atmosphere. There are tons of little shops to buy costa rica shirts or nick nacks. There is an internet cafe there. People here seem to have come from all over and finding english speakers isnt a problem at all. The last time i was in Puerto Viejo there was a monkey climbing around in the palm trees by the police station.

My sister and brother-in-law (both from the states) live in costa rica and are there on a long term mission trip. they live in Moravia and that is like right outside of san jose. they are moving soon, but they said there are a lot of people there that speak english. but then again where they are is just a normal suburban area, so there aren't really that many wondrous sites to see and the people there still speak spanish.

You need to check out the beaches for sure, do the rain forest tour and check out the volcanoes.

You can stay at hostels for very cheap or you can get an aparthotel for a week in San Jose for around $150 for the week.

I think this would be a cool trip for the both of you. It is under $2000, and your accomodations, airfare, and breakfasts are included...not to mention a kickass itinerary with things like white water rafting, and excursions to national parks and volcanoes. If you book with the code Tiu9005, you also get a discount. You'll be traveling with college students from all over the country...so no worries if you can't speak the language very well or at all.

I dunno if that's the kind of trip you girls are looking for, but there's also tons of other ones to different places like Europe and Asia.

If you have any questions, let me know :)

You should definately visit the Arenal Volcano. It's so beautiful and it's still active but you can walk really close to it. I loved it there.
