First, Is Costa RicA.
Second, you will have to have a high profile in your career ( engineer, IT tech, Manager, CEO, etc), because our government protects the low profile jobs for the Costa Ricans.
Usually the Americans who moved down here are retired ($$$$$$), or get a English teaching job in some private institute, if you have college education. Or even work in a call center in the city (traffic, crime, pollution, etc.), not in the beaches or Coasts. But you'll have a day off a week.
About the visa, you need to show and prove some good income, in order to get a permanent residence status, you can stay in the country for 90 days with your passport/tourist visa, leave the country, and stay for 90 days again, and so on.
I'm not trying to be negative, I'm been realistic and gave you the true. Now, there could be something that you can do, maybe get married to Costa Rican woman, but, you'll need even more money for that.
Once, you get trough this step, you can live easily on $1200 monthly.
Good Luck! |

FOr unskilled jobs it is hard to get a work permit (which requires some sort of residence status which can be difficult). But if you are in the country legally you are allowed to work for yourself. You can start a business, almost anything, and try to make a living at it. You could not work for a salary as a bartender except under special circumstance that are hard to justify, but if you bought a share or two in a bar you could be considered self employed and working in your own business. |
