It's human nature. I am Caucausian and my ex-husband's family is from El Salvador. My daughter does not look like me AT ALL, and people assume that she is adopted when they see her with a blond, green eyed Mother.

because of the same reason people here in California think I'm Mexican (I'm from Lima, Peru), or why in New York they think I'm Puerto Rican. It is just that the people in Argentina associated the way you look to that of a typical Peruvian, and perhaps you accent sounded close to a Peruvian accent.

Maybe is not because the color of your skin but the way you speak spanish. I'm also light brown but from Peru and one time I travelled to Chile and most people thought I was from Argentina, even argentinians who crossed the mountains during the summer, they thought I was from San Luis, Argentina because of my accent not my looks (I'm 6'2")
Most of the peruvians who go to work to Chile or Argentina, are short and kind of square built:
