You'll definitely do "customs" in Bogota (besides, American Airlines only flys to Bogota, Cali, Medellin and Barranquilla in Colombia). I take it you'll fly Avianca from Bogota to Pereira?
Have you considered Continental Airlines from Houston (non-stop service from Houston to Bogota)?

in Bogota, but i think there is a flight that goes from Miami to Pereira with Avianca. also there is the same flight but from New York JFK to Pereira. good luck
