In Costa Rica. Is the ocean warm enough to swim this time of year.?

What are the best and safest places to go to the ocean from
San Jose. (We will need to go by bus). Are the beaches top less? Are they safe? What about sharks and sting rays.
Thanks.

Hey I'm going to Costa Rica in late March for the first time. We are planning to go to Playa Hermosa which is about a 2 hour drive West from San Jose, thus being on the Pacific side of CR. As of right now the water temp is around 83 F and the air temp is in the high 80s during the day. I am not sure about topless beaches but the surf is supposed to be epic. Because this is my first time in CR Im not sure about sharks and stingrays but make sure not to go swimming in some of the rivers...crocodiles.
Have fun!

Definitely very warm to swim in - like bathwater

All the beaches are pretty safe as far as sharks and sting rays go. Topless and nude sunbathing is generally frowned upon by the locals as they feel it is disrespectful. If you like to sunbath nude be sure to do so in secluded areas

1- Yes, every day of the year.
2- Península de Nicoya, go by bus ( Tambor: Safety for children's).
3- No, the beaches are not top less. Yes, they are safe.
4- No incidents report, but off course , we have sharks and rays like any other part of the ocean Pacific or Atlantic.

Yes, it is warm... they consider this time of year summer (although technically they are NORTH of the equator, so...

The beaches are relatively safe, but I have not seen any topless women at any of the beaches I have visited... I am sure there are some nude beaches somewhere though.

As at any beach, there could be dangerous critters in the water, but I would be more concerned with being pulled out by a rip tide and drowning then I would be concerned with critters in the water... surfers go to Costa Rica because they have great surf, but with that comes a lot of danger if you are just "wading" in the water. Unless you are a really good swimmer/surfer, stay out of the water if the waves are big.

If you are not familiar with the country just go to Jaco... it is fairly easy to get to.
