Ah man we got everything here.
So the one we are most known for is arepa, this is the shape of a pancake but made out of corn. We eat them with everything. Every Colombian loves arepa, with anything.
Also you got empanadas, which are like the Colombian version of a cornish pasty. They are usually semi circle shaped. and come with meat or veggies.
We have tamal, this is really popular at christmas. It is cooked rapped in a big leaf. Inside the leaf you have the tamal itself which is usually with meat and veggies and potato then all that is surrounded and kept in place with maize.
Sancocho is a soup we have. Soup is also really popular here. You have it with potato's, meat, parsnips, chicken and a little more.
If you are in Medellin, Antioquia. You will need to have the traditional paisa meal called Bandeja paisa which is basically a big dish with beans, meat, patacon (sorry I do not know how this is called in English, it is like a big banana) and loads of stuff. You need to be really hungry to finish it.
All these dishes vary depending on where you have them and who makes them. Most families have there own individual recipes which have been passed on through the generations.
one last thing that I love is called paparegeno this has an egg in the center, and is surrounded by meat. It is like our equivalent of the scotch egg.
They are some of the unique dishes of Colombia.
Hope this helps |

The one I love the most is BANDEJA PAISA from the Antioquia department.
If you are in Medellin you will order Bandeja Paisa which is a long, usually oval-shaped wooden or china dish of rice, cooked banana, a stone-mushed fried plantain, minced meat, fried egg, fried pork skin, blood sausage, beans and an avocardo.
The sites below will give you an idea of some of the main dishes with pictures, including Bandeja Paisa |

Yea like everyone said
-Bandeja Paisa
-"Calentao" (which is like a bandeja paisa but for breakfast)
-All parts of the pig & cow like chunchurria (the intestines), eyes, ears, feet, sobrebarriga (which is the meat i'm guessing on top of the stomach), pernil (which is the thigh..which is maybe the only one that is not usually fried but rather made in the oven)
-Muchacho which is a piece of meat from the cow which is stuffed
-Sudado which is basically a dish with rice, potato, yuca, and has a little bit of a "soup" with just onions and tomatoes and any choice of meat so you would have a sudado of chicken, beef, etc.
-Sancocho, like the dominicans, whcih is basically a stew of anything but I guess to more common ones would have onions, cilantro, potato, plantain, yuca, and some meat
-Tamales...but the things is is that they are made differently every country and even in colombia, the regions make tamales differently
-Lentejas which is a lentil soup made very simply made with potato and tomato and rice |
