The Copan Ruins. They are located in the west by Guatemala. Depending on where you are traveling from within Honduras, the trip will be long and hot. But it's totally worth the trip. The city is very small and colonial....you can walk between the winding streets. It was hard to find a hotel available....so a local lady just opened up her house for us. If you don't speak Spanish, it's worth investing in a tour guide. Those are the men and women carrying a stick with a feather in it. There are 2 parts that cost extra.....and they are both underground. Also, you can ask about the horse trail ride that goes up into the hills....they have also found carvings in the woods.....I forget the name. Have fun! Honduras is beautiful! I lived there a few years.

The classic Maya site of Copan is one of the greatest of the Maya centers. It is located in the department of Copan in western Honduras; many people approach the site from Guatemala. The nearby town is called Copan Ruinas (not Coban with a b -- Coban is a city in Guatemala).

Las Ruinas de Copan (Copan Ruinas). This city is so awesome, and there are many places where you can go to see ruins. If you plan on visiting, make sure you take one of the three wheeled "taxis". And the hotels are nice and cheap.

Hello I am Marianna Gonzalez Latin America travel expert, and the nearest town to the Copan Ruins is "Coban Ruinas" Honduras. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its unique hieroglyphic staircase and its ball court, the second largest in the Mayan world.
