Information on Tamarindo, Costa Rica?

I am going to an all inclusive resort ( Barcelo Playa) near Tamarindo. How will we access currency? Are there trips to Nicaraguar? How safe is it? Anything we should know, any recommedations?
Additional Details
How do I get to Nicaragua and back form Tamarindo? Would; I have to go to Jaco or San Jose to get the bus?

I agree with DanY. Dude with the first answer has been writing the same crap all weekend. The all inclusive resort you are going to is at a great beach. It is actually in Playa Langosta and not Tamarindo beach. I have been to Barcelo Tambor, and I can tell you that the beach was clean, the hotel wonderful, the staff knows how to cater to the clientele, the activities were great and you will not go hungry.
As far as currency is concerned, don't exchange your money at the airport or you will get beat. They don't follow the official exchange rate. On my website, TicosLand.com, you can follow the daily money exchange rate which was around 516 colones to the dollar when I checked. Make sure you check so that you know how much you are supposed to get. Here's a rule of thumb. If you see a price in colones, double it and you will be close to how much it is in dollars. For example, something that costs around 4 thousand colones is around 8 bucks. If the price is in dollars, it's the other way around, you cut it in half. This way you won't have to go around with a calculator.
Nicaraguan trips are available. Once again, go to TicosLand and check for travel and tour information. Keep your wits about you, don't be too trusting, and have a great time. I love Costa Rica. It is a small jewel to be treasured.

Well, every country in the world has a ghetto. The places this guy is talking about on the 1st answer are some ghetto places and he is exaggerating a lot. San Jose is a province so it has a lot of different counties inside of it. It has poor ones but it also has very rich parts that would make you fell like if you were in the states. YOU ARE GOING TO AN ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT! IN ONE OF THE BEST BEACHES OF THE COUNTRY! Also, If Tamarindo was polluted they wouldn't be building all the multi million dollar hotels and condos around there. Your going to be in a very safe and beautiful place ´´Paradise´´. Just have fun and yes you can go to Nicaragua with http://www.ticabus.com/ingles.html the cost is only $21 one way or $43 round trip. The bus also goes to Granada Nicaragua which is a very recommended part of Nic to go to its right on the big lake Nicaragua where they have a lot of tourism and hotels its a beautiful view. Or maybe you can fly really affordably with http://natureair.com/ They go to 17 different destinations of CR and also go to Panama and maybe Granada Nicaragua, just call the 1-800 number if you need detailed info.
For currency exchage itll just be easier to take a taxi from the airport to your hotel and pay in dollars and then in your hotel you will have access to exchage your dollars for colones and just know that the exchange rate is 516.5 for every dollar, this changes a few cents everyday or week but you can always see the exchage rate at the home page of the bank of CR http://bancobcr.com/ there are banks all over the place you will easily be able to exchage your dollars at a bank close to or in your hotel. Dont exchage it at the airport window because they rip you off but there is a bank thats open 24 hrs in the San Jose airport so there should be one in Liberia airport too but it might be hard to find it as the one in San Jose airport is hard to find from where you go outside.

i completely disagree with the 1st answer as well..im costarican and i went last year to tamarindo&im going again july 28...it's beautiful there and the water isn't even contaminated (at least where i was it wasn't) i'm also going to a resort too..but while im there im going to ones surrounding tamarindo like.. playa langosta, playa conchal, and playa brasilito. of course u have to be careful in costa rica...but that's EVERYWHERE you go. you can't trust any 1..lolz. &yeah nicaragua is a bad country, but wat can u do about it?...&just a suggestion...instead of going to nicaragua y don't u go to panama? (: good luck !

Ok dude so that first answer exagerates A LOT.
Costa Rica is a safe country, you just have to watch your self and your things, as you would anywhere else in the world.
Know where u are going, and dont do anything stupid.
Do not go to NIcaragua, there it is pretty dangerous.
You will be safe at ur resort and around tamarindo, justkeep an eye on ur possessins, just as you would anywhere, even in ur front yard of ur house.
There are a few banks in Tamarindo, like Banco de Costa Rica. Also u will find people speak english often in Tamarindo.
Don't worry and have fun.
I reccomend making a plan and know waht u r doing, and where u r going ahead of time.
Pura vida mae!

To the first guy: I'm Costarican too but I'm ashamed of you, good thing u left my beautiful country...
I could say so many things about what u wrote but what shocked me the most was when speaking about Limon's violence u point out that 80% of the ppl are black, what does it have to do with anything??? Racist!
