All economic magazines will tell you Brazil is a developing country due to its gross national income per capita. The problem with Brazil is that rich people are really really rich (european style rich) and often travel within the city in helicopters and stuff like that. But on the other side, the poverty is extreme in Brazil and you can see in places like Rio, where an avenue divides Sao Corrado (extremely wealthy neighbourhood) from a favela (shanty town). Brazil is one of the most developed countries in South America but if you are comparing its development with world wide economics, then it is a developing third world country.

According to the World Bank, Brazil will be the 6th largest economy in 2008, and it has already a high DHI (development human index). But it's still very unequal, so I think it can't be considered a developed country until solve this problem. Our cities aren't uniform. You can find neighborhoods with mansions, glassed buildings, shopping malls close to shunty towns. Brazil needs to invest hard in education for the poorest share of the population. In 20 years maybe it'll become a developed country.

I think that Bazil is a developing country because it still has jungles and stuff. But I'm not sure. Hope this helps.
