Is Colombia a good place to study?

Im planning on going to south america for college. I wanted to go to chile but i heard they speak terrible spanish. So I have to choose another country.. but have no idea.

someone told me Colombia and Peru are prolly the best since they have a clear accent so people from other countries barely have problem understanding their spanish. Are they a good place to go to college and to learn spanish? Safety is the last thing I care about.. I grew up in a pretty dangerous place, so.

I would advise you to go to Ecuador. It's a beautiful country, they speak a very good spanish, specially in the highlands (Quito, Cuenca), there's a lot of good spanish schools and it's touristically much more attractive than Colombia and Peru.

I think that you should go to Colombia. Its beautiful, and has a lot of places that you could learn from. And it isnt as dangerous as the news make it seem, I lived there most of my life and nothing ever happened to me or my family.

Just to add to the excellent postings of Preciosa and Onetwothree

Colombia is known to be the best Spanish speaking country in all of the Spanish speaking world....

On top of that..Our capital..Bogota is nicknamed
"The Athens of South America"

Yes, there are many good universities in Colombia. Every major city has several universities.

If you want to study a career there you need to take a test in order to be admitted.

You're right, it's always been said that the Spanish Spoken in Colombia is one of the best, if not the best.

I understand the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in Bogota, has Spanish courses for foreigners. You can do a search on the Internet.

yes colombians are known for their excellent spanish, and i disagree with one of the above posters, colombia has a MUCH MORE diverse landscape than ecuador.

Universities I would recommend in Colombia are in Bogota, Universidad de Los Andes, Uni Nacional de Colombia & Uni Javeriana.

Come check out the message board ColombianBlog if you want to know more about Colombia.

Colombia has the best spanish accent, so you should come here. We have many universities that teach spanish classes for foreigners. My college is called "UNIVERSIDAD EXTERNADO DE COLOMBIA", is one of the best, I have met people from Germany, Switzerland, France, etc. that leraned spanish here, and the do so well. Plus, the university is located in la Candelaria, which is a very special zone, the architecture, there is so much to do around here, you will enjoy it.
there are some other universities, la javeriana, los andes, el rosario...
