Vibrant cities with soaring skyscrapers, elegant port towns cut by cobbled alleys and bougainvillea-shrouded balconies, spectacular national parks from tropical to heavenly-high-alpine, cruise boats, party buses, late-night salsa dancing and fantastic shopping.

In my opinion,Colombia has it all and is a great place for a vacation. With an amazing amount of things to see and do, from Cartagena on the Caribbean to Letica, the gateway to the Amazon basin and everything in between.Warm, friendly people.Good food, inexpensive and efficient transportation plus the best place in Latin America to learn or improve your Spanish and the most pleasant time to visit Colombia is (now) in the dry season, between December and March or July and August.

Contrary to the rumor mill and overdone state department travel warnings I have never personally had any problems anywhere in Colombia.Just use common sense and take the same precautions you would anywhere else in Latin America.

Colombia is wonderful. There are 2 oceans, beaches, all types of weather, beautiful landscapes, spanish architecture in some cities, modern architecture in others. vibrant colors that shows you where you really are good colombian food, there is a lot of seafood too but if nothing like that appeals to to there is also the average mcdonalds and kfc. President Uribe has done a great job on the violence one hears about there. most stories you hear arnt even true and the ones that are...think of it this way the newspapers just need headlines that will get people to spend thier money buying it. people will hardly buy their papers if its all about the wonders of the country. Colombian people are very warm, kind and generous. they work very hard to prove their bad reputations wrong and they do a sensational job at it. you will not do wrong by spending your money there at all. you should brush up on your spanish though beacuse very few pwople there speak english. I honestly would die to go there.

I am sure it is nice.Tell Chavez that Bush sends his regards while there!

Colombia is wonderful. But be careful. Dont flash a lot of cash.. dont every leave your drink when you are in a bar.. Cartagena is wonderful.. You saw the fort in Romancing the stone and Love in the time of Cholera. Tons of national parks, San Andres Island is gorgeous. Totally worth the time and effort to get to know it.

I have two co-workers from Colombia with relatives there, and who travel back to visit. The State Dept. warnings are correct, they say. You should not travel overland (by bus or car) between cities - only by plane.

Appear poor. Don't use a credit card or debit card. Carry a COPY of your passport, and leave the original in the hotel safe. Etc.

Please also read ALL the links provided below. Realize that there are unscrupulous people in ANY country who will try to take advantage of tourists, especially those who don't speak the language (it happens in the U.S., too). People often let their guard down when traveling on vacation - they just want to have a good time. Be careful; better safe than sorry.

C'mon. There's so much unrest in this country, I wouldn't go there unless I was being stationed there with the 5th Battalion. Unless your dealing cocaine I really see no other reason to go to Columbia.
