Let's see. If you go to San Jose, the capital, you must visit the opera house, an replica of the Paris opera house in smaller scale. The fun is really on the Pacific Coast (Puntarenas, Jaco, Manuel Antonio, Playa Tamarindo and Conchal). The Atlantic (Caribbean) coast is basically a swamp, so it's great if you want to see turtles and crocodiles, but sucks if you're looking for a nice beach.
Close to San Jose you also have the volcanoes which are a nice sight.

Jaco makes for a good headquarter to explore the pacific coast. Beware though, as the town is full of dope-heads. Manuel Antonio is beautiful and also try the canopy tours in the area.

Visit the beach and the rainforest. I've heard San Juan is pretty rough, so be on your toes. Thefts, not murders...

Costa Rica is an amazing destination! I spent a semester there and got the chance to check out a lot of awesome places. The places that you like kind of depend on your personality, but here are some ideas:

San Jose is fine if you are interested in city life and culture. Personally, I think Costa Rica has so much more to offer, so I wouldn't spend too much time in San Jose.

Like the previous answer, the Atlantic coast isn't very good if you're looking for swimming beaches, but Tortuguero is cool because of the sea turtles. I agree that the Pacific coast is the place to be, there are a bunch of towns along it (Quepos, Dominical, Jaco) that have good beaches. Quepos/Manuel Antonio is the most popular, so it tends to be touristy and expensive--but it's gorgeous and there's a forest reserve that you can tour (see monkeys, etc). I loved Dominical, which is kind of a surf town (swimming's a little scary because of the rip tides), and it's less touristy than Manuel Antonio.

I wouldn't recommend going to Mal Pais or the other towns along the northern Pacific peninsula, just because it's harder to get to. Corcovado, on the southern (Osa) peninsula is also hard to get to, but is absolutely amazing if you can get there.

Finally, if you're into the rainforest thing, you have to go to Monteverde. It's a quiet town in the middle of the country, but it has an awesome forest (ok, I'm biased cause I'm a biology nerd). Hopefully you'll be there for enough time so that you can see a few different places!
Good luck and have fun :)

Well this country really has a lot to offer, but it depends on what you are in the mood for, and how much time will you spend here.

In San José you could find some museums like La salle, museo de los niños, jade, and others. Great restaurants and some malls.

But I guess you know that Costa Rica´s most fascinating stuff is nature and tourism.
I
f you want to go to the beach: You should definetely go to
Guanacaste, those beaches are so beautiful that you could fall in love with that place. To go there you have to pass Liberia, in that place you will find a zoo called Africa Mia where you could see non carnivorous african animals. and spends a nice time

Some beaches in Guanacaste are : Hermosa, langosta, tamarindo, conchal, ocotal, playas del coco. Believe me, just watching a sunset there will make you day!!!

Hotels in guanacaste : Barceló conchal, Gardinni di papagayo, Allegro di papagayo, Four seasons, Fiesta premiere, Condovac among others.

If you like mountains or kind of cold places, you should go to monteverde´s rain forest , where you could see many exotic birds, butterflies, bungee jumping, animals and beautiful flora. Plus you could go to the serpentary, and look at those quite cool snakes.

Hotel there: Monteverde lodge, El establo, el sapo dorado, fonda vela or heliconia.

If you are very adventurous you could go to pacuare river for rapids.

Then you must go for sure to some volcanoes, people love Arenal, you could stay at Tabacón Hotel there you´ll find hot springs and beautiful nights and spas.

But believe me, Costa rica is a MUST place to visit

I hope this could help, if you have any questions I´ll be glad to help my mail is silegon@yahoo.com.

BEST?????????

I didn't know there were any "Bad" places in Costa Rica!

They are all Great!

Roflmao!

Try Quepos - a sleepy little tourist town of 4,000 souls on the beach bordering on the Blue Pacific just 29 minutes by Sansa air from San Jose!

Only four miles from Manuel Antonio Nature Preserve and Beach with lots of good restaurants & bars inbetween that promises a lot of fascinating entertainment at your leisure!

And they have some of the worlds biggest Fishing Tournaments every Oct - March for the biggest Fish in the world!

Check out Hotel Kamuck in Quepos! I always stay there!

Good Luck (Buena Suerte) y
VIVA LA PURA VIDA!
