Costa Rica is a free and democratic republic since September 15th 1821.
That´´s almost 20 hundred years.

Not exactly, no. I can see how some might think so though. It is a very popular tourist destination for yankees and a very large portion of the country grows bananas for gringo consumption.

I think you got your answer already but it was a great laugh. Maybe we should consider the USA becoming a protectorate of Costa Rica. Think of the military spending we could devote to other uses like throwing horseshoes, studying the potential for seagull poop as an alternative energy source and other ideas I'm still working on.
