politically: it has had a coup de etat evey 2 years or so. Except for the current president that seems he will stay in power longer than 2 years.. currently I dont think it continues being unstable.. but you never know here.
economically: it depends on oil exports to supply dollars into the economy: if oil gets over 50usd/barrel it is ok, if oil gets lower than 50, problems might happens... now oil is around 20usd/barrel so for sure there will be problems in the next months.

The level of stability in Ecuador is really dependent on where you are.. in rural areas you shan't have any fear, but in more populous areas (like Quito) you will see a lot of flavellas and economic hardship. Plus, Peru and Colombia aren't being very nice to them..
