And why?

No. It's a "developing country." They don't use the term "third world" anymore. So there's "developed countries" (like the U.S., Canada, Spain, Italy, England, etc) and "developing countries" (like India, many countries in Africa, several carribean countries, etc).

Up until this moment I had always thought so until I read chica's answer. I will now consider it a "developing country". I was there just 4 months ago and it still has alot of "developing" to do. It is a VERY poor country. There seems to be no middle class. The rich are VERY rich and the poor are VERY poor. However, the people are wonderful. Yes, you've got some bad seeds (gangs, muggers, ect). We certainly have those here in our "developed" USA!! Guatemala is in a huge need of missionaries. You can't really mail anything down there to help out because it will most likely be stolen if it has a United States stamp on it. Also the recipient of the package has to PAY to get the package. So, to help out, you pretty much need to GO there. As for the airport. It is small, but Delta and American Airlines use it. I've flown both there.

1st world country is an industralized country such as USA or England
2nd world country is a communist or socialist country such as China or Russia
3rd world country is everything else that doest belong to the first 2 categories. so Guatemala is a 3rd world country

Sadly, YES. As a descendant of that country, I have visted it often and let me tell you that in reality it's not progressing towards the positive. Guatemala City often has some of the most shocking headlines out of all central america for its crime rate, uprising gangs, government corruption, starving children , poor living conditions, and low work wages. Sweatshops are established there and they only recive cents on the dollar for their work. In rural cities, parents opt to not enroll their children in school because of lack of money and need someone to help around the house. Their internatonal airport is shamefully outdated. Poor families die each day by threats of the gangs. I mean , I personally don't find it progressing or developing. But I guess I might be wrong..............(not really)

the omen is here
yes
