Is January a good time to visit Costa Rica?

My husband's client told him that he could stay at his vacation home whenever he wanted. We wanted to go on our anniversary in January. Will it be nice?

Hello

I work in a Spanish School in Costa Rica and here the summer starts on january and goes until april. People from usa comes to costa rica on june and july because those are your summer vacations, but actually, we are about to begin winter season here, so it rains, and sometimes a lot. So if you heard stories about people that came to c.r. and rain their whole stay, problably was because they came on rainy season. So, the positive side to come to c.r. on january is, better weather, not many tourist on hotels, beaches and tours. Also, the roads to go to some places are bad, without rain, are not that bad.
The negative side, it“s costarican vacations, so local tourist are everywhere, so you need to plan where you are going and make sure is not a local favorite, that“s of course if you don“t want to mix with the locals, ( i“m costarican and i don“t like to mix with them.), hotels may be full on those days, so you need to make reservations about 4 months ahead.

The hotels pricing is the same on january and june and july, so there“s no difference.

hope i help a little

Hello. Costa Rica in January is beautiful, weather is not as hot as it is right now (we are now at 78F, 26 C in downtown san jose); in January is little cooler but still warm (23-25 C).

I am also from Costa Rica, as previous answerer, and I should say regarding the locals' vacations, that everything is not as crowded as it sounds. Yes, vacations are in Dec-Jan, but most people goes last week of Dec, because people begin working the first week of January.

Beautiful places to visit are Manuel Antonio National Park (beach at central pacific) Arenal Volcano, (at the North side) and Cahuita (at the Caribbean).

Welcome in advance and have fun!! :)

This is a great time to be in Costa Rica. The weather is great but it can be windy at times in Guanacaste and around Puntarenas.

Fantastic time of the year. In fact, it is the best weather possibly all year round. I lived there from October-June a couple of years ago. What a wonderful place to travel. The only downside is that because it is so fantastic, there are lots of fellow travelers around and the prices are in the high period.

If you are into adventure and white water rafting check out my favorite rafting company Rios Tropicales. Do their two day trip down the River Pacure. Top notch.

Also if you are into relaxing on a beach...check out Sueno del Mar: http://www.tamarindo.com/sdmar/ This is a very romantic spot. Not best for families, but great for a get away.

Yes, Costa Rica is wonderful in January. The only probably is if it is close to the holidays there will be more tourists. But I am positive you will enjoy it.
