¿Is Peru a good destiny for vacations?

Of course Peru is a great destination!

You need at least 7 days to see the city of Cuzco it's surrounding ruins, the nearby Inka cities (Pisac & Ollantaytambo) the nearest town to Macchu Picchu "Aguas calientes" (10 min) with it's Hot Springs pool and the opportunity to go to one of the seven wonders for a longer period of time and without the everyday crowd that arrive by train at 10am (you con go up at 6am).

That's the most famous destination we got, but the second one is also worth going: City of Arequipa and the COLCA CANYON, this is the second biggest city after the capital, Lima but located in a beautifull country side flanked by 3 extinct volcanoes, There is no Inka ruins here but a lot of colonial construction in white volcanic rock "Sillar". from here you can go to the Colca Canyon its a 5 hr drive (not dangerous) because it takes like 2 hrs to go around one of the volcanoes and you stay at the top of the canyon in the city of CHIVAY, there's a Hot springs swimming pool full of tourists every night, this valley stayed isolated for centuries and the villages and people live and dress as they did 200 years ago. Also you get up at 5am and enter the canyon for an hour to the Cruz del Condor, a place where you can see live Condors fliying around at very short distance.

Then You have Puno-Lake Titicaca, Lima, Trujillo-Chiclayo to the north, or the amazon jungle to the east.

If you decide to come and want to get the most of your money, arrive to Lima and tour for a few days, then go to Arequipa either by plane or good bus, there you'll get used to the hightness and from there to Cuzco then travel to Lake Titicaca by train and back to Lima and home by plane.

it can be. as long as you don´t mistreat the "natives" in any way shape or form.

no mater where you go, there is good and bad, just don´t be afraid to travel :)

Peru is great, and not only for Machu Pichu, which is already commented here. Distances are great however, so you'll need a little bit of time...

Mancora in the north is a great little place to go surfing, though can be quit touristy.
Chiclayo has one of the most extensive open markets I've seen in my life.
Best trip I've made was taking the bus from Chiclayo to Tarapoto, from there a pickup to Yurimaguas, and finaly a three day boat trip through the jungle to Iquitos. A great experience, with fantastic scenery. But again you'll need some time.
If you like hiking, climbing, mountains. Huaraz is defenitly worth visiting.

I did all traveling by bus, which are comfortable and good for the bigger bus companies. You can check bus schedules on www.sabuses.com

If you're in a hurry you could opt for taking planes, websites are:

enjoy!

Yes, it's a good destination.
There are lots of things to do, and places to see. Lots of history... you could stay in Lima and see the sites, go to the amazon jungle, go to Macchu Pichu, see the Nazca Lines, go to hot springs, etc.

Just be smart about where you go. Dont wear jewelry and keep your wallet safe-- there are lots of pickpockets and crimes like that. Just stay in well-lit areas, etc.

South America is a beautiful continent, and a great travel destination.
But here are some pointers on how to go:
Wear normal clothes (no labels and such)
Do not take credit cards or money, traveller's checks are better.
Keep a waist bag, there are a lot of scalpers.
No expensive looking jewelry.

And you are fine, and of course, learn at least three words in spanish. You will need to either have a translator with you, or you yourself learn, that way you can talk more in spanish than english.

Americans are usually targeted everywhere in the world because we usually look like we have a thousand dollars, and a bit aloof. Which my friends tend to be.

Of course! Especially if you want to see Macchu Picchu yourself!

There's other things, as well.
