I wouldn't say Peru is the safest. It is pretty safe but you cannot say for certain that there is a "safest" country in the world as in every place there are muggers and robbers. Compared to Mexico city, yes, then Lima is much safer right now. Compared to Honduras, yes, Lima is much safer.
Cuzco is a very touristy place so policemen and law enforcers want to keep it safe in order to have more people coming in.
As in any place, dont openly advertise you're a tourist, Dont hang your camera on your neck, dont have a city map on your hand, things like that. Leave valuables (credit cards, passport) in a safe in an hotel and bring with you some cash. If you ask me if Peru is the safest place in ALL Latin America, then the answer will be no but it isnt the worse either. Compared to Mexico and Honduras it is much safer. |

This question is Very difficult,..as far as Peru, If you stay in the better neighborhoods,it`s Very Safe ! But,if you venture into known 'danger spots ' you are asking for trouble. You have to be careful where-ever you go.
The police presence in Lima is very strong,a person of authority is almost always in sight.Around banks, better restaurants and hotels you`ll see the 'Nacional Policia' ,they`re very well armed and alert.
Just pay attention and have a great trip. |

argentina is really not safe at all. check for express hijacking in buenos aires. peru isn't the safest country in latin america but isn't the worst either. also depends on what do you plan to do there. send more info and a much specific answer will come up. |

Last I heard, Uruguay and Costa Rica were still the two safest countries in Latin America. |

Cuzco and Lima ARE safer than Mexico DF, no doubt about it. From my recent visit to Honduras I see that Lima and Cuzco are also safer than Honduras, but that is based on a 2 day stay, so it could be biased.
I don't think Peru is the safest country in Latin America, Chile is probably safer, but it is one of the safest at this point in time. |

I would say Argentina might be the safest...Panama is also a pretty safe country. But Peru is a really nice place to go. I dont think that something happen to anybody especially for a tourist...good luck |

Yes, It is. In this time Peru is a lot, a lot more sure than Mexico and Honduras, for the tourists. |

A friend from Peru was surprised how that she can put her handbag in the chairs of the restaurants in Mexico City, because in Peru the thieves run with it.
Many perunians, argentines and ecuatorians migrate to Mexico, that makes you an idea that Mexioc is more safer, the thing is that is Mexico is more close to the States than the other latinamerican countries, so we get more news from Mexico but the crimes are worst in the rest of Latinamerica, specially Peru and Colombia.
Perhaps Costa Rica is a littlebeat more safer but is because is a very small country. |
