of course it is safe. you really shouldnt worry. some part of the u.s are not safe, but that dont mean that the whole country is unsafe. as long as you dont look like a billionaire with a big gold chain then you are totally fine. venezuela is a buetiful country, and alike most latinos they are friendly and like to party.

I spent a little over two weeks in Venezuela last July. However, if you an American and look like one- be on guard!
I was ripped off for over $4,000 on my debit card by someone who had cloned it. ( Yes,I got it back from the bank, minus the $50 that I am responsible for and after a lot of worrying). A young Danish couple staying at the same posada were relieved of all their money by someone at the bank who fraudulently charged their debit card. They were waiting for money to arrive from their parents in order go go home! A pair of British backpackers, also staying at the same posada, were robbed at gun point as they were walking to the posada from the bus station! This was all in just three days time that I spent in Ciudad Bolivar.
Most of my time there was spent in the jungle with indigenous people and I had no trouble at all.
The country is extremely beautiful and most people are honest and very nice. Just be careful.
