Yes, Brazil is a Latin American country, that's obvious. Look to the name: "Latin America"
Latin: because a latin-derived language is spoken, such as Portuguese and Spanish.
America: because it is in America.
So Latin America.
Brazil is a Latin American country because speaks a latin-derived language (Portuguese) and is in America.
I don't what makes someone thinks that Latin America is only Central America... Obviously Italy is not a Latin American country because Italy is in Europe, not in America. English is not a latin-derived language, how many words of English comes from Latin? 5%? In Portuguese or Spanish almost 80% of the words comes from Latin. The "islands", I believe Natasha is talking about the Caribbean, is not considered to be part of South America.
Yes, technically French Guyana is part of Latin America, that shows that the term Iberian America should be used instead of Latin America. |

"English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian are all Latin-based languages but we don't call, say, Italy Latin America do we? "
English is not a Latin language, it is Anglo-Saxon. Please read up on the Norman Invasion, etc.
Italy is not in America, so strike 2.
Latin America is all of South and Central America (including mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba and to many today even Miami) |

Latin America means countries that speak a Latin based langauge. Portuguese, is latin based and the offical langauge of the country.
How about French Guyana? French is a latin language? |

Yes brazil is a part of "latin america" because portuguese is a latin based language. All spanish, portuguese and french speaking nations in the americas are a part of latin america. |

Yes, Brasil is the biggest country in South America...
official language is Portuguese......
just to add, Brazil does form a part of Latin America, all the south american countries do, along with central America, and the Carribean |

No. Definitively, not!
Besides being a multi ethnic nation - black, orientals and whites from more than twenty countries of the Europe -, Brazil has a language that is not only Latin, but, Greek, also (and nobody says that Brazil is a Greek country).
Another thing to be observed is that, if the fact of a language to have Latin origin made the people of a country to be considered latino, the Rumanians would be called latin, not, Slavs.
This I friction "Latin" is a great dullness and an enormous racist arrogance of U.S.A., that wants to become of better than the other peoples of America and, therefore, created this inexistent etnia to include in the category of Hispanic, any citizen outside the U.S.A. and Canada.
In the truth, Latin America does not exist. This "latino" label is a dullness. |

haha James S I'm sorry to say that definition is pretty far fetched. English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian are all Latin-based languages but we don't call, say, Italy Latin America do we? Latin America generally refers to Central America who's countries include Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. South America refers to the mainland south of Panama, and the Caribbean refers to the islands (West Indies, etc) in the Caribbean and Atlantic sea parallel to Central America, though all of the mainland is technically South America, as are most of the islands. Hope this isn't too confusing. |

I still love Jose UC bluea
|
latin america is generally accepted as the central american
countries such as honduras guatemala etc
brazil in much further south and they are the only south american country who speak portuguese instead of spansih |
