if you have dark hair and look european and lay low you'll be just fine. if you look "hispanic" (mestizo) you'll be fine too. if you look like a typical "gringo" you might want to be extra careful because you'll stick out, but there are colombians with blond hair and blue eyes. work on your spanish to try to blend in.

if you flaunt the fact that you're american you'll be a bigger target for crime and/or being kidnapped. so don't wear too many clothes logos. Also, only tourists and gringos wear shorts, so wear jeans or khakis while you're down there.

Colombia is awesome, it's so much fun, contrary to what people in the U.S. say because all they hear is the horrible stuff on the news and haven't actually been there.

if you go, stay in the big cities because those are safer. but when i went i went in the countryside and that was fine too. just try to stay out of really remote regions, that may or may not be under the control of the FARC.

Colombia is a good place to go the cities are safe but you must be careful whit your personal stuff in the streets, the people is nice, the landscapes are awesome i recommend Cartagena Bogota & Medellin but if you want some adventure you can go to tayronas Natural reserve its beatiful quite safe and cheap

Colombia is a beautiful country and like in any country or city, even some cities in the US, there are certain areas you should not go. If you and your gf do a little previous research, are informed and exhibit a bit of common sense you will be just as safe as anywhere else.

far from. colombia is one of the most beutiful fun places on earth, the people are fun and enjoy party and as long as not stupid its safe. Alot of what you hear about colombia is not true or not fully true, if you do go there you will be suprised at how nice it is.
