By Central American standards. It is close to a first world country in many ways. The post office is slow, but cheap and dependable. The standard of living is decent.

Costa Rica as other latin american countries is a developing country, wich has a lot of resources, but still lots of social problems.
I would say it´s rich in culture and natural resources.
Compared to ther countries of the region, it´s poorer than Argentina, Chile and Brasil, but it´s more developed than El Salvador, Bolivia and Nicaragua.
