No. Food is cheap, rent is cheap, but cars and gas are expensive. You can buy a house for $50k and rent for ~$100/month or less. The CLP is gaining strength on the US$ now so you may lose a bit on the exchange though.

Santiago de Chile is the third more expensive South American capital after Caracas and Sao Paolo. Well if you go North or South probably will be cheaper but depends also on your life style.
Comared with US it is almos the same talking about Santiago.
