Is it more common to use U.S. dollars in Honduras, or do they commonly use the Lempira?

I am going to Honduras in less than 2 weeks (San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, West End-Roatan).
What is considered a good exchange rate?

Lempiras are used in the entire country except on Roatan and other islands. The best exchange rate is in SPS in the park square where the "gray market" people openly exchange money for tourists.

Hondu
Lemps will make it easier while you are in San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba, and there are money changers at the airports, but dollars are accepted everywhere on Roatan. While the exchange rate right now is 18.9 L. to the dollar you will certainly get a better rate at a bank than you will from the businesses in West End or the money changers at the airports.

They commonly use the Lempira.

The Lempira is currently approximately 18.8 to $1 US.

Use a debit card to take money out of the ATMs. You get a better rate.

good luck
