Yes of course it is - but its highly dangerous. I worked in the british Embassy in caracas for three years. I assure you that the terrain is extraordinarily difficult, passing through jungle, plains, mountains in hot and humid conditions. But the terrain is not the most dangerous. Guerilla warfare, kidnappings and general crime is rife and worst of all, the police are not the most helpful place to go for help!

Anybody with any sense would fly between the two cities. If its adventure youre looking for ok, but be prepared to have a number of very unpleasant distractions along the way. The safest place to do want you want to do, with enough interesting terrain along the way is Ecuador. Argentina and Chile are also safe enough and interesting although a damn site more expensive.

e amil me if you want more advice pabannister@clara.co.uk

Sure, even in the national geographic have done it.... you have to travel light, on day, and have a really good shape 'cause Colombia has lots of mountains....

Mr Nick
Yes of course it is as they both share a common land border. I was in Colombia (Bogota) and wanted to do the journey by bus, the foreign office at the time said it was too dangerous in the north due to guerilla activity so I flew up to Cartagena back to Bogota and onto Caracus, just stick your bike on the plane and head south. But don´t miss Colombia it really was one of the highlights of my trip and I would go back there tomorrow.

Hibee
Not without being robbed several times.

If you're Latino, why not. If you're a Gringo you need to be careful in Columbia. Note, I'm a gringo and love Panama... where you don't have to worry about these things.

Look, I won't even travel thru Colombia on a bus, much less on a bike. Cycling is extremely popular in Colombia, so if you want to do it, go to a place where there are other bikers. But you have a very high chance of getting stopped by guerrilleros.
Plus, the roads in Venezuela between Caracas and the border aren't fabulous for cars in many spots, so much less for bicycles.
Don't do it! :)
