well im answering this question from an internet cafe in the heart of escazu, and im loving it so far. it isnt a third world country, but it isnt first world either, so be ready for poverty. if you are used to living a little bit rougher than you may be used to youll be fine. im 16 and i ave no trouble traveling alone here except at night. as long as you take taxis dring the night you should be fine. it is not as cheap as i thought it would be, but is much much cheaper than the U.S. it is a beautiful county witha fabulous nightlife, i strongly suggest it. ig you have any otehr questions email me at jscott7792@yahoo.com.au.
hasta luego! |

A wonderful country. Pretty cheap, though not quite as cheap as the other Central American countries. It is safe, as long as you are sensible - avoid dodgy areas, don't go out of the most popular places at night.
The Monterverde cloud forest is fantastic. Trek for 3 or 4 days in pristine jungle. Humming birds, butterflies - I want to go back there.
Volcan Arenal in the north is just the best volcano you will ever see. Hot waters spas can be bathed in at the bottom
The beaches are excellent, the surfing good, and the turtles are delightful.
There are also some very good museums in the capital.
Great country, great people.
Go! |

Yes - and less than a year later I came home with a Costa Rican wife and have a marriage happier than I imagined.
Go with the right positive attitude (same as any new country you visit) and you have an awesome time. Listen to advice given by 'foreigners in the know' and problems will be minimal.
Buses are frequent and most less than 60 cents; I used them all the time no problems - but a little research will avoid the hassle of taking the wrong bus if you're staying somewhere for a little while. A standard 4 hour bus journey to Liberia from the Capital is around $5 - the seats comfortable but a little cramped for space.
Love the country. Volcanos, Rainforest and seeing 'just about every butterfly, bird and tree on the planet!!' are only my highlights......the people? By culture Coata Ricans are 'non-confrontational' and preferring 'peace' - the country has no National Army to this end.
Don't miss the rural 'unvisted' areas in the north such as Upala. San Vito in the far South is one of my favourites and the locally grown coffee there the best I've ever tasted.
that's before you even reach the beaches up in Guanacaste |

Obviously yes,but your airline ticket would be more expensive during Christmas than lets say...March or April.
Yes it's safe.Obviously use common sense.
Yes it's absolutely beautiful.
It's not as cheap as everyone thinks,it's more expensive than other Central American Countries. |

yeah it's safe. obviously you must be as careful as you would be in US.
It's really beautiful.. you will love it
cheap.. It's by far cheaper than US, but, it's more expensive that the rest of central america countries. |

Well, when its winter time in the states it is summer time down here so the holidays is the high season for tourism and yes of course it is safe and yes it is very nice and its not that cheap.
But it is cheaper than Hawaii and some of the beaches here are comparable to beaches in Hawaii and we got volcanoes and cloud forests too. |

it is safer than other latin american countries and even safer than some parts of the U.S, but this doesn't mean you can go outside at night showing all your jewelry and money and thinking that you will be fine, just be precatious when your out, follow how every tico acts and do the same thing they are doing then you will be fine. It's a beautilful country, people don't want to leave once they visit the country. It can be cheap depending on the place and what you are buying, tourist places are more expensive than where costa rican people tend to go, Costa Rican people can tell you which places are very cheap and more delicious to eat. good luck have a great trip |

Yes, it's fairly safe (be carefull in San Jose - typical large city issues), it's wonderful, and if you go to super nice places - it's not super cheap, although it's cheaper than in the US. It's my favorite place to holiday :) |

Of course it is possible. Costa Rica is one of the safest counties in the world and traveling there is very easy. Many America retirees (baby boomers) are retiring there due to the low cost of housing, medical, security, and living expense. It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and one of the first to focus on ecology. English is spoken just about everywhere and the government welcomes the tourist trade, which is becoming a major source of revenue. However, like any other country, unless you know your way around, it is best to hang tight to the tourist areas. |

No, it is not possible to go on holiday there. There is a big sign at the airport that says 'No holidays in Costa Rica'. |
