Is it safe for me to travel to Medellin, Colombia by myself?

I'm a white 30 year old American who can speak Spanish but with an accent. I'd be going down to meet lots of beautiful women.

Ignorance is daring as they say.

It's very easy to talk about a country you don't even know. I could swear the people here who said all those things about Colombia have never been there, they don't even know where it is located!!! wanna bet??

That woman, Fabiola Hernandez, whoever she is, has no idea what's she's talking about!!!

She's the very same person who wrote: "Americans have gotten sucked into a vacuum of thought that this is the best country in the world. It is not!".

Nice, isn't she.. Good American too..

Those are just her opinions!!! she has no basis whatsoever to say what she says. You cannot rely on other people's opinion.

Medellín is not more dangerous than ANY big city in the US.

This is ridiculous.

Just got back from Medellin and it is super safe!!!!!!! I am also a 30 yr old American. I stayed in the Dann Carlton for business and walked around during the day without a single problem. Make sure you check out the Botero Park and the Metro Cable!

Are you serious? The whole world is full of beautiful women, you do not need to travel to the #1 most dangerous nation on earth to meet them!

Don't listen to the poorly informed folks. I traveled over 1 million miles throughout just about every country in Latin America. You can't speak Spanish very well and unless you have some local contacts you can trust, stay away from Colombia. At 100 kidnapings per month, American are the "prime beef." You would be held captive for months before the FARC would even make contact demanding substantial sums. Mexico has surpassed Colombia this year in the number of kidnapings. I always felt save going there but recommend ONLY hiring a hotel driver to take you places. Well, there is no good lucking women in Mexico, so don't even bother if that's what you are looking for. Your destination is Brazil, where I grew up. The women come in bus loads over there and they are friendly too. Well, you can have lots of fun in Panama, Costa Rica, Peru and Ecuador. Chile is nice but too conservative. Argentina.... well, bring lots of cash and they will talk to you. Or just go strait to Brazil and have such a good time you will thank me eternally!

This is a VERY bad time to be an American in South America.
Unless you know local people, or plan to stay in well lit, crowded places, do not go.
Kidnapping is rampant in many places, and Colombia is one of them. Although not, admittedly, as bad as I can be in Brazil.

Go to Mexico. Cheaper, safer, and filled with beautiful women.
