Absolutely! I would compare it to taking the bus in the U.S. Watch your stuff! While Costa Rica has an extrodinary reputation for a low violent crime and serious larceny rate. Petty theft is common if you are careless.

It depends on the route you take.
Ask at the front desk of your hotel where to take the bus, how much it costs and do not wear expensive jewelry. Pay with coins and small colones bills (do not take out 20, 50 or 100 dollars bills)

Yes it is very safe. But of course its always good to have normal precaution like being aware of your surroundings and having a good grip on your stuff.

yes it is safe. just use common sense, i.e. not having valuables out in the open, and use small bills or coins....bus driers get frustrated when they have to take the time to give you change as in any country.
I did find that the bus system in CR is extremely punctual, rarely ever late. It puts US public transportation to shame.
