OMG!!!!! That is not true at all, I am a colombian and i have traveled around the world and lived in different cities of the world and I must say that the health care here is much better than other countries, the private doctors are not as expensive and the government health care system is like anywhere else.

to answer your question we do have doctors, really good doctor in latin america, people that goes to uni for 5 or 6 years minimum and 90% would go into other courses or specializations.........also colombia has been key part medicine.....did you know that the person who discover the malaria vaccination is a Colombian and instead selling it to a pharmaceutical company, he gave it to the world.......

to continue answering your question, you should know we do have witch doctors as well in the jungles.....in latin america we have still loads of jungle and there we have native, indians that have not been contaminated with the outside world, so they still use ancient medicine, coming form plants to cure themselves....
so we have both; but in the city you can always go and find yourself a fine and professional doctor.

In Brazil it is necessary to study 6 years in an university and more 2 years of medical residence to be medical. I don't know if in other countries of South America this practice exists, however enter the native Americans in indigenous tribes there is the medicine man that is the bewitching consultant that has great knowledge of herbs.
