Semana Santa and Easter (the busiest week of the year) are at the begining of April in 2007, so expect the last week of March to be a popular one for travel in Costa Rica.

It's the heart of the high season for international travelers but Ticos are at work or in school. Still activities and accommodations fill up quickly. Advanced reservations (as far ahead as six months for some of the more popular hotels) are strongly advised.

While March is still high season in CR, most of the towns you listed are seriously off the beaten bath (esp. San Miguel and Coyote). Reservations are almost never necessary unless you plan on staying in resorts. Every town will have pensions (low end hotels) for $20 a night and under, and they will all have vacancies. I was living in Montezuma this time last year and made the drive up to Samara on many occasions. All pensions and middle-class hotels had vacancies, and there are many to choose from on the off case that one is full. Brasilito and Samara might be more crowded, but you will be able to find lodging. No question about it.

When you get to Montezuma (one of the best hidden jewels of the country, in my opinion), I would recommend continuing to Cabuya, about 7km towards the nature preserve. We liked it there so much, we rented a house and stayed there well into the rainy season. You can make day trips to Montezuma and Malpais, and relax at night in a true rural jungle setting. The people there are very friendly. I would reccomend staying at the "Jungalows" right before the town center (crossroads). The Dutch owner knows a lot about the land. At low tide, wade out to the old cemetary island. Walk through Capo Blanco. Hike to the waterfalls and swim. Try the pescado at Delfin del Luna. Take it easy. Enjoy your trip!

And kudos for avoiding Tamarindo. It has been spoiled by the tourist trade in the worst way, though the beach is as picturesque as they come.

in samara stay at casa del mar or the Treehouse on the beach.
in montezuma visit the waterfalls- free!!

It is always wise to reserve space in a hotel with time, so I definitely recommend it. As a costarican, I will like to tell you that from those options, definitely Samara and Potrero are the best ones. Flamingo and Tamarindo are another great ones but that's your choice. Good luck and enjoy! ;)

I would reserve the first hotel before leaving home so that when I get to the country and leave the airport I know where I am going and will have no problems.
