Is there a lager percentage of English speaing people in Venezsula?

Actually the few people that have answered that question have all been right to a certain extent...meaning that certain areas will have a higher population of "English Speakers" than others. Touristic locations like Merida, Margarita Island, and Caracas will have many more English speakers than places that receive little or no touristic attention, but even in the touristic towns English Speaking people will probably be hard to find. I'm from the U.S. but i now live in Venezuela. In the town where i live (Rubio), I'm one of 3 people who actually speak English (and the other two people were born in the U.S. also). But when i visited Merida (which by the way has the highest cable car in the world) i met at least 8 English speaking tourists... the funny thing was that none of them were from the US though. They were from Canada (the French speaking part), Sweden, Germany, and Russia... so a lot of the people who do speak English will be from other countries.

Finally to comment on what an earlier answerer touched on... English is taught in schools as a mandatory subject, but it's a lot like when students in the US take a foreign language in high school.... what u learn isn't nearly sufficient to actually communicate or survive in another country.. it's just enough to graduate... so you usually forget it all. But every once in a while you'll find some one who went the extra mile and taught English to themselves.

My advise to you, if you want to find people who know English well in Venezuela, find universities or institutes that specialize in teaching English and befriend the instructors and students... it will be a real treat for them to meet a native English speaker.. and they'll introduce you to new and amazing things that normal tourists never experience....trust me... it works!!! Almost no one speaks English in Venezuela. The other user is right about English being taught very poorly in school and afterward almost everybody forgets what they learned. 80% of the population is poor and cannot afford or have any interest in learning english. The actual goverment has plans to remove english and computer classes from the schools curriculums replacing them with courses on indigious languages.
There are very few bilingual schools which are very expensive even for middle classes.

The official language in Venezuela is Spanish and not too many people speak English as a second language, only the educated ones. They teach it in school but very poorly. There are some bilingual schools but they're very expensive.

what the person said about kids out of America learning different languages is true mostly in Europe and Asia, but in South America and the Caribbean the students mainly learn spanish. I think it may be either because most of these countries are developing countries so the schooling isnt as good and it may also be a culture thing.

Unlike America, most countries, schools teach students starting at elementary school age to speak another language usually English. So by the time they graduate high school they are bilingual. now how well they can speak it, i guess is how well they grasp the language. so i would say around tourist destinations they can speak English well. In the interior of the country they probably have more trouble speaking English.

in venezuela , the people dont know english , if you come to here , i think mey bee you have to learn spanish , here in the S.T , the people not speak english!!! ... i know because im venezuelan ( sorry my english sucks..lol but i want to try )
