One of the typical features of a developing economy is the enormous gap between rich and poor and the small or non-existant middle class.
Peru is fortunate enough to have a sizeable middle class, but the income levels are far lower than in the US or Europe for equivalent work. The highest earning Peruvians can earn millions, but their numbers are few. The lower class, which represent the vast majority of the country, subsist on less than $2/day. |
