sounds like red bugs (chiggers)- We have them in Louisiana-
they actually buried themselves under your skin-don't freak out- they're itty bitty. Place a dab a clear fingernail polish on the bite. That will suffocate them and get rid of the problem. Sounds nuts but this really works better than anything. (If it's red bugs)

Might be fleas. Seriously, out in the west, like California, there a little sand fleas all over the place. If you walk through any grassy area, you'll get bitten by them.

definitely chiggers! I got them when i was in cancun a couple of years ago. i found the best way to get rid of the itch was deodorant. sounds strange but i put deodorant on my legs for 2 days and i was rid of the itch. the bites stayed a day or two longer but that was ok...the itch is what drove me crazy!

They might be from gnats. Gnat bites are pretty large and they tend to get swollen. They itch a lot, like mosquito bites, but they can also be pretty painful.
yellowstone
Probably chiggers but could be sand fleas/flies as well.

I have yet to see a chigger in Costa Rica.....The mosquito's can be very nasty here...There is also a bug similar to the ones in Florida called No- See -Ums.... I would suggest a 2% Hydro-cortisone cream 4 times a day....Maybe try a warm Epsom Salt bath once a day.....I'm lucky bugs do not like me.....I guess I'm not very likable if bugs ignore me....
