Lima is the current capital of Peru but it's very dull. Can anyone suggest a more interesting alternative? |

I agree on this. However, there are several more interesting places to visit.
In the north you have cities like Trujillo, Chiclayo, beaches like Mancora or Colan.
In the highlands you have Huaraz which is also called the peruvian Switzerland due to the wonderful andes mountians.
In the south you have Arequipa which is a very nice place.
Of course there is Cuzco and Machu Pichhu which is like the most touristy place to visit. |

Peru is just full of interesting places. Go traveling to Cuzco, Machu Pichu, Puno and lake Titicaca. The ruins along the coast, Caja Marca, Nazca plains to see the desert designs.
You may have to spend some money to do all this, however, looking for fun in Lima is also going to cost.
A little further south is Santiago Chile, a very nice city with sophisticated people and a lot of life with some of the most beautiful women in South America. However consider this, are you the right type for those local populations? |

Cuzco is probably one of the most exciting travel destinations in the world. The city itself is amazing. It was the capital city for the Inca Empire, and when the Spanish arrived there it was probably the biggest urban center in the world. Parts of the water and sewage systems are still the same from 500 years ago! Big part of old Cuzco is still preserved from that time, the colonizers just built the second floor - and you can see many buildings with the first floor built in the Inca way (dark stones) and second floor very typical colonial (white walls and balconies). From Cuzco you can get a train to Aguas Calientes and see Machu Pichu ruins. Just unforgettable! If you decide to go there, do not miss Santo Domingo church, with the ruins from the main Inca temple inside. |

try Cuzco. In the 1600's, there was a HUGE earthquake in and around cuzco. Funny thing is, all of the buildings built by the spanish fell, and none of the inca buildings fell. Just shows u their architectural genius even though the spanish thouth they were better enginnerrs. Almost all of those buildings are still there. |
