machu pichu is an ancient ruin created by the incas. it was a temple that was used for many ceremonys, and was positioned in a way that the sun would shine on it almost flawlesly. it is very beautiful, and has fountains, statues, and housed. i think that it is a wonder

Machu Picchu,
the so-called “Lost City of the Incas”, remains intact because it was never discovered by the invading Spanish. Constructed on a high, forested mountain overlooking the Urubamba river, Machu Picchu and Wayna Picchu were lost in time and the dense foliage until they were brought to the attention of the outside world in July 1911 by the American historian and explorer Hiram Bingham.
Our guides will carefully explain the history of this unique place and guide us around its terraces, temples, palaces and watercourses.
You will be met at your hotel in Cusco in the early morning and taken to the San Pedro railway station, from where you will make the spectacular three hour train journey to Machu Picchu in the company of your guide. At Machu Picchu your guide will explain the significance of this magnificent site and you will have ample opportunity to explore the ruins on your own. We will take the return train in the afternoon, arriving in Cusco in the early evening, where you will be transferred to your hotel.
The tour includes all transfers, train tickets, the services of a professional guide and entrance fees.
There are several ways to reach Machu Picchu:
Walking: by taking the Inca Trail to the ruins.
By train: Take the train from Cusco along the Urubamba valley
Combinations:
These itineraries can be combined with trekking programs which begin in the Sacred Valley, canoeing trips and sacred valley tours.
Machu Picchu, Vistadome class (full day)
Machu Picchu, backpacker train (full day)

Machu Picchu in Quechua means Old Mountain, next to Machu Picchu is Winna Picchu which means young mountain. The Incas my people borrowed this land and called it Tahuantinsuyu meaning The Four Quarters of the earth. Incas speak in Quechua, they give thanks to Inti meaning Sun, Pacha mama meaning Mother Earth and they prey to Wiracocha meaning Creator of the Universe (which is Jesus). Making a long story short Incas had great Political relation with outside tribes, we where thirsty for knowledge, we never had locks on our door because no one stole, until Spain the conquistadores came, they stole the gold and silver, gold was never a currency for the Incas, we only used it as art, it looked like the Sun Inti. It is said gold is the blood and sweat of the Sun to the Incas, but the Conquistadores seen the gold, well you know next. We all need to learn for the past and all of us in the world need to be proud in where we come from ,for our children's and our future brothers and sisters. There a lot more to write about, but Machu Picchu is a wonderful place very spiritual place near Cusco captial city of the Incas. Incas think all of us are all from one place we are all brother and sisters, because we say we have same mom and dad, Mother Earth and Wirachocha which meaning again creator of the Universe. You will be very welcommed in Cusco and that whole region, the best way to understand it is to travel there, youll have lots of fun and expirence a different culture. The world is to be traveled because it yours.

if you decide to do the inca trail consider the inca jungle. i did this two months ago and it was incredible. you go mountain biking the first day and you get to go to cleaner/cheaper hot springs. if you are comfortable with negotiating then you can wait until you get to Cuzco and go to the Plaza de Armas and speak with the many vendors to get a competitive price.
