Monkeys in Colombia cities?

Ok so are there ever like monkeys that run around in cities in Colombia...i mean like the way we have squirrels or pigeons that just kinda naturally live in cities and no one worries about them except on occasion when a family of them make it into your roof or something...i hope that makes sense...also are there any other animals one might be likely to encounter in a city atmosphere or place with a lot of people?
Additional Details
I am not confusing India with Colombia...entirely different sides of the earth...Christian and Catholic are very different...i know i am Catholic and hate it when people think its the same

* its a silly question i know but i am simply curious thats all...i am not like some American who doesn't know crap about other countries i just wanted to know...and also just for kicks Juanes is amazing and i love him and saw him in concert and he makes me want to go to Colombia lol

I can understand why you would think that. We do have loads of animals in the rainforest and there are lots of monkeys. Oo and before I get well dont for spelling the name of my country right (most people spell it with a U). But in answer to your question, No we do not have monkeys running round the city, and the guy above (terminator) is correct in saying that we are not a Christian country we are Catholic (mostly) although the amount of Christian has non stop grown since around the late 80's.

So no monkeys. However we do have many birds, we have a little brown bird, which is kind of our equivalent to the pidgeon in that they are everywhere, but that is really the only animal that is everywhere, and unlike racoons or foxes they are not a pain in the *** and do not cause mess everywhere they go.

Hope this helps

Hahaha what a question. Not, there's no monkeys running around in Colombian cities. There was a town that had a park where cute little monkeys lived, but I think they were taking away or killed like 14 years ago. Wildlife like that is usually shy so they go away as soon as humans show up.
Ps. The odd idiot every now and then may have a monkey as a pet, but that's not exactly what you asked.

If you go out to Gorona Island every street (none are paved) have Monkeys in them. Walk from the restaurant to the dive shop.. Monkeys. Walk from the "hotel (I use the term hotel VERY loosely) to the old prison.. Monkeys. Walk towards Gogonilla on any "road" and you will probably see monkeys. Look on top of any of the buildings.. Monkeys. And, occasionally on the whale watching outposts.. Monkeys.. They are everywhere.. As are snakes (We had a 10 foot boa in our window one night)

Frederick is mistaken. Apparently only knows about Colombia from Wikipedia.

90 % of the population is Roman Catholic, not Christian (No, they are not the same)

Although you don't have monkeys or other wild animals roaming the streets, you certainly DO NOT have visit zoos just to see them.

Wild animals can be seen in the Amazon Jungle or in secluded rural areas.

I have encountered Iguanas on rural roads many times. I also have a picture as proof if you want it. Send me an email.

I have been traveling Colombia quite some time now. I have seen monkeys in trees near several cities. They are mostly like Terminator said, the rural areas.

Never seen groups of monkeys in any city.

In Panama, they do have groups of kudamundies roaming around populated areas near the jungle. Link below.

enjoy

No, monkeys don't go around in the cities. Where I live, in barranquilla, all we get are small birds and occationally small lizards called lagartijas but they're only like 2 inches long.
Oh, and there are lots of stray dogs but i don't know if that counts...(they don't get into houses)

I love Juanes too :)
and yes, you should totally come to colombia!
btw I've seen squirrels in the trees at my school, i wish there were lots of them around lol.

I think you are wrong, I live in Colombia and I don't see monkeys. I know they live in the forest, but we live in cities, we are indians like people think. Some towns have aquirels, and monkeys too. but it is not generally.

Frederick
I think you are confusing India and Colombia, In india there are some cities were monkeys are respected and glorified as gods so they are free to move around the cities and do whatever they want and people doesn't even care. In Colombia 99 % of the population is Christian so they don't see monkeys as something special. Additionally Colombia is a modern country so there they have animal control units and that kind of stuff. So if you want to see a monkey in Colombia in a city you should try visiting the local zoo.
