Go to Costa Rica. Enroll in a Spanish Language course at the Spanish Language Institute in San Jose. In Spanish it is the Instituto de Lengua Española. My wife and I studied there in the late 1960s and they had differing programs for people at different levels of understanding.

It was originally organized to teach missionaries but has since expanded to cover others who want to learn the language. All classes were taught by native speakers, cultural differences were explained, single students were placed in a Costa Rican home and so on.

If an internet search doesn't give you results call The Evangelical Alliance Mission in Wheaton, IL and ask to speak to someone who could give you contact information for this excellent school.

Costa Rican and Colombian Spanish are considered the best Latin American Spanish. The people are gracious and the country is beautiful.

Safest country in Central America - Nicaragua. Go outside of Managua please. You can move to Granada which is a beautiful colonial town and one of the oldest in the Western Hemisphere and it boast the 21st largest lake in the world with sharks and all and 365 islets and island with twin volcano called Ometepe. Then there is Leon which was once the capital and it is also an old colonial town. Then if you like cooler air go to Jinotepe or Matagalpa which are in the mountains if you like it really hot then go to Chinandega with its beautiful beaches, Jiquilillo for example. Whatever you do, stay out of Managua. If you like more caribean style place then go to Corn Island or Pearl Lagoon where you will hear broken English spoken, Miskito and Spanish. STay out of Bluefields because it is full of crime and drugs..

Nicaragua!...safest country in Central America and with lots of culture and diverse background.

Due to a lot of immigration during the last century there is a diverse cultural background.... (Americans, Germans, Italians, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Spaniards...etc)

You go to the supermarket and you can see chinese, arabic, nicaraguans, etc. We are also really friendly and outgoing...

You can visit the cities of León, Masaya, Granada, Matagalpa (gerat weather!) , Carazo and Rivas.

COLOMBIA!! the people are nice, the food is also, the place is amazing.. if you want to know the cities, then go to Bogota (even though it is a city, it is full f typical wanders) and if you want to know the countryside (wich by the way is pretty different than the ones in other countries!) go to any village Ej: Villa De Leyva and off course, to the sea (Santa Marta and Cartagena are the best) For food, go to Medellin for a typical "Bandeja Paisa"
Luck!
