Moving to Costa Rica?

I plan on moving to Costa Rica when I graduate college, hopefully in Heredia. I would love to be able to teach ESL there. However, I'm pretty confused about how to obtain residency in that country. Anyone care to help me?

Obtaining residency is possible, but it is a slow process. You must first apply at the nearest Costa Rican Consulate to you. You cannot move here then apply. The best site for information is www.migracion.go.cr. It is the government web site so it is current and up to date. It lists all the requirements for the different types of residency. To work in the country last I heard foreigners needed both residency and a work permit depending on the type of residency you apply for. Beware of companies and people who tell you they can get it done quick. A lot are disreputable and charge $2000 or more for false papers. You can do all the paperwork yourself. If you feel more comfortable with someone local helping you out you could hire an attorney but this is unnecessary as you can fill out all the forms and paperwork yourself. I would recommend you keep a copy of everything for your own files as it is quite common for Migracion to ask for things more than once. English teaching jobs are available here. The local papers are good places to look for listings. lanacion.com, ticotimes.net, beachtimes.net. aldia.com are some the web sites for the local papers. La Nacion usually has the most job listings. Hope this helps and good luck.

The best way is to get the job first and have your school help you.
