My friends and I are planning a trip to Costa Rica this fall. Is September or November a better month to go?

Definetely november... september is one of rainiest months in Costa Rica (october the worst!) so, if you want to really enjoy our country with a little bit less of rain, november would be a better choice. And don´t worry about high season, because it doesn´t start until december... you can still find green season rates.
Good luck and enjoy Costa Rica, pura vida!

September is almost the height of the rainy season here.
Noveeber is dry but the country is still green!

September would be my suggestion. It is considered "low season" so everything will be cheaper. Also, it is not as hot during the day. It rains almost every afternoon, though. It depends on where you are in the country, but in September you can count on some rain almost every day. It isn't bad, though. You just have to plan outdoor activities for the morning time and then you should be fine :-)

The benefit to November is that it is getting close to their summer, and you have less rain. It is rippin hot during the day though! Since it is (depending on which hotel you go to) "high season", things will most likely be more expensive.

I went in late September / early October last year. It was beautiful and the weather was great, although the locals kept telling us we were lucky that it wasn't raining. Also, it was not very crowded -- I think that November is the start of high season which means more touritst and higher prices.

i would say September..........

I'm Costa Rican and I know those months are highly rainy, but if you have to choose between September and November, I would say that latter just because it's closer to the beginning of the summer (which for us is January) It is going to be a little bit more expensive cause it's high season, but if you want a better weather, that's the month. By the way, there are no hurricanes in Costa Rica, sometimes we get some side effects from them, but we've never been hit by one. However, as someone else said, temperature is pretty much the same all year long (cool huh?). Have a nice trip

?
both months are really rainy but November sometimes is sunnier. Well.... any month is great to visit us! ; D

Both months are during the rainy season. But is a cheaper time to go. Less tourists. Take you pick

November-- Less of a chance of hurricanes. The climate is better as far as getting less and rain. The rainy season tends to go from MAY-Novmeber but will wind down towards the end. September can be a very rainly month across all parts of Latin America. However, you might find better deals in September then you will in November, and it is less likely to be crowded with tourists. Just depends on how important weather is to you on your vacation

Either or, Costa Rica's temperatures don't fluctuate all that much.
