depends how much money your family has. it is very different no matter what, but if your family is poor than they will have limited things like water is limited and stuff like that.
in the capital i think they are having issues with the electricity, they only have it on for so long and then they turn it off so they can service other areas. thats how it was a couple of months ago.
things like food: remember that they eat very fresh foods, some of the meats may taste a bit different b/c we are used to prepackaged foods here in the U.S. they go to a market or a butcher and get their food there.
if you're family is ok on money, then you may not feel too awkward. they will have all the commodities we have here...the brands of stuff are different and may not look/taste the same.
but it is a BEAUTIFUL country and you should be excited to be going over there, hopefully its just for vacation right? lol.
just remember to not be rude about things and don't act like a spoiled brat. not everyone is as lucky as we are in America to have all these commodities available for the majority of people. |

I've been to Guatemala, and really enjoyed it. While the majority of the country is poor, Guatemala is a very lush, beautiful country with a very distinct culture. Antigua is one of the coolest and oldest cities I've ever been too. The Lake Atitlan region is awesome. There are lots of hippie towns surrounding a huge, high altitude lake. Guatemala City is huge and cramped I would skip it if I were you. |

Well, the country is considered a developing country so do not expect to receive all the luxuries like here in the United States. But as an tourist, you can stay in fancy hotels and dine at good restaurants, but that is not how the locals live. |

How exciting! Well, it is certainly different from New York. When i think of Guatemala i think of all the pyramids and ruins in that area. There are alot of mountains, too. Life there is very simple, i imagine. They are among the 10 poorest countries in Latin America. The people there speak Spanish and different Native American languages. |
