Yes. But why bother? Its a big headache. Just take your ATM card unless you are buying real estate and then work that out with your Realtor. |

Your bank can make electronic transfers to Honduras just like in the United States. When you get to Honduras pick a bank, open an account and they will provide you with routing numbers that your bank will need. Although it takes fifteen days for a US check to clear, some folks just write a personal check on the US bank to themselves, and deposit it in the account here. That saves the expensive wire fees that both the sending bank and the receiving bank charge you.

Godzilla is correct...I have been there a couple of times and getting money is as easy as getting it at home. If you wish, you can also purchase travelers checks and cash them at any bank. It is easy , but can be time consuming. Atms can be accessed after bank hours too. I would advise against making constant smaller withdrawals. Keep enough cash on hand to handle all needs, so you are not so dependent on finding a bank/atm all the time. And do all transactions in broad daylight when possible. Some atms have security guards, some do not. Conceal your larger amounts at all times ( a money belt) and just keep handy what you will spend now. enjoy. If you go to Copan Ruinas, and I reccomend it, stop in at te Red Frog and tell Dan kenny says Hola. |

Call your bank and tell them that you will be traveling to Honduras, and would like to know what is the charges every time you use your ATM card. I traveled to Italy and B of A would charge me $5.00 every time I took money out and charged 4% for every purchase. so If I bought something for $100. It would cost me $104.00.
I also called my credit card companies and asked if they charge every time I use my card, and b of a and Capital One told me that because the kind of card I have there would be NO charges. but COSTCO Amex told me that they would charge me a 2% for every transaction.
So, my advise is to call the bank first and find out what are your options.
