My wife is moving to Guatemala, where would it be safe for here to live? she will be there for 6 months.?

My wife is going to be waiting for her green card and i need to get her a nice safe apartment. Does anyone know nice area's in the city? Also nice places outside the city? She will be living by her self and my 2 year old son. I perfer a House but an apartment would be nice. What areas in guatemala are nice and safe?

There's a lot of options for you and your wife. Antigua is a good one, but is far away from Guatemala City, like a 50 minute drive. And the road could get lonely and dark at night.

If you can afford it, you can move to one of the nicest places to live in Guatemala City, those are, Zona 10, Zona 14, Zona 15, Zona 16, and Carretera al Salvador. I agree, an apartment is the safest, you can buy a house too, in a condo, and ask about safety issues, and believe me they'll tell you the truth. There are a lot of condos that are extremely safe in Guatemala, i live in Carretera al Salvador in a Condo with my 18 month old baby, and i never ever had a problem about safety.

About safety in Guatemala, just use your common sense, and you and your family will be alright.

Hope I helped!

Yeah getting her an apartment in Antigua is your best option. But WHATEVER you do DO NOT!!! I repeat DO NOT send here to live in or walking distance from la zona 8. I went with my cousin by mistake to la zona 8 and ended up running for our lives when some guy started shooting over an argument. Trust me it is a very bad and disgusting place for a baby.

Antigua is a nice, safe place. There are lots of homes that are rented out. Lots to do in Antigua as well.

Actually, an apartment is probably safer than a house. Life, culture, etc is different there than here in the US. There is safety in numbers. In an apartment there will be neighbors to "watch out" for her and your son.

Will she be in Guatemala City? If so, the city is divided into zones ("zonas", in Spanish). I have only visited Guatemala City, so I don't remember which zones are better. Someone who lives in the city could let you know.

Guatemala is a very nice and beautiful country. You should consided traveling down there to visit her if you have the time and money. You won't regret it!
