I would definately have to recomend the Monteverde Extremo canopy tour, that was so much fun!
I'll have to agree that Manuel Antonio National park was great. There was hiking to the beach, a good amount of wildlife there, and really nice beaches. This beach even has creepy little monkeys that walk around stealing stuff and sit in trees!! |

The Osa Peninsula has a national park of primary amazonian rain forest with many animals. Or, Hacienda Baru is a nice place to stay inland with a butterfly garden and a zip line. Up north, Monteverde is forest but no animals. Volcano Arenal doesn't put on much of a show but the hot baths below it are great. |

one thing you HAVE to do is go on a zipline. I did when I was there and LOVED it |

Been there many times, my recommendations are Manuel Antonio and Volcan Arenal.
Manuel Antonio is a beautiful beach area with great scenery and wildlife all nearby.
Volcan Arenal is great if you are lucky enough to be there on a non-cloudy night and can watch fire-red rocks stream down the volcano. Make sure you get a cabina with a volcano view. |

I went to the Cloud Forest in Monteverde and Volcano Poas which is right outside of San Jose. They are beautiful. |

Manual Antonio because there are 3 different little beaches there and the national park.
Volcan Arenal if you would like to see an active beautiful view and go to the thermal waters
Monteverde for the canopy tours and cloud forest
I said 3 so I guess I flunked the test of narrowing it down to two. I love Volcan Poas but you risk not seeing it because it is 50% of the time cloudy...too risky. |

If you must limit yourself to two, I'd recommend Monteverde and Manuel Antonio National Park. Monteverde gets you a view of the rainforest, and you can do some hiking and ziplining. Manuel Antonio will bring you to the beaches, so you really get to see the two biggest attractions of Costa Rica.
Both are very touristy and very popular, though, so if that turns you off, they wouldn't be for you. |
