Some plus-size apparel stores also sell shoes made specifically with plus size women in mind.

Check out Sketcher's bike shoes. They look like a MaryJane but it's actually a sneaker. I think this is the greatest invention ever and own several pair. I wear it with dresses and skirts and can still walk comfortably in them. Here are examples off the website: http://www.skechers.com/catalog/browse.do?function=displayProductList&gender=W&catId=21&index=0&viewAll=false&sort=popular&prodId=5597&styleCode=21687

Although I tend to buy mine at one of those discount stores when they do BOGO half off. It's been so popular that they have a bunch of different styles and colors now, so you can get it to go with anything.

No, I don't work for Sketchers - I just really love this shoe.

your best bet is to find one with a nice sturdy heel to it. I HATE wearing heels even when I was thinner i hated them. I do have a pair that I've had forever and they're 2" heels but the heel is about 1" wide and is rectangle with rounded edges. Depending on your feet should depend on the style of shoe if you have weird shaped feet with a high instep like mine you certainly don't want anything too strappy or with thin straps, they'd massacre your feet. There are lots of shoes out there, you just have to get out there and start trying them on.
