No air-conditioning in Central America?

I am planning a family trip with my parents to Costa Rica and just about every one of my questions has already been answered... The only thing I'm finding is when I'm looking for house rentals and such, in any place, none of them have air-conditioning. Not even the really expensive rentals that we won't be staying at anyways. All the websites say something like, "The breeze comes in through the entire house and the fans on the ceilings keep the air moving." Well... I personally have no problem with this, but I know my mom may be more concerned because she's never traveled outside of U.S./Canada and Europe. So I'm wondering how "cool" these houses really stay, since the average day temp in Costa Rica is always in the 80F range. So, who's stayed in non-air conditioned houses in warm climates? I've stayed like this in Peru, but that country is more cold than warm.

By boyfriend freaked out when I told him there was no AC in our rental. He got over it very quickly though. The breeze and fans worked perfectly (I even had to sleep under a blanket!) The houses are built to make use of the breeze and they are very comfortable. Lots of windows and great weather and you won't even know the difference.

I live in a non-airconditioned house in Honduras and the day temp right now is high eighties to ninety. The overhead fans and the winds keep the house quite comfortable. If you have fans and breezes with 80 degree weather you will be fine.

We were just married in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica last April and my wife's parents were there. We were worried about the same thing, but after the first day we were all acclimatized. Our resort was perched high on a mountain overlooking the ocean, so the breeze was remarkable. We also spent alot of time in the pool and drinking margaritas !!!

You'll be fine. Just be open-minded and think outside the box.

well, why do you need and a/c house here in costa rica if you are coming here for the weather. houses with a/c's here are worthless. costa rica is a micro climate country. people are use to the weather and the temp and thats why they live happy. if they want to go to a warmer or cooler weather, they go for a couple of days but is something we can handle...
