In the northern Pacific, I would definitely recommend Playa Grande. It is much more quiet and peaceful than Tamarindo. You can find some very good hotels around the area. Since it is in the northern Pacific, you can expect less rain.

Definitely a beach on the Pacific. I LOVE Playa Conchal!! It is the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica. It is also nicely located near Tamarindo and Flamingo and has many hotels nearby for many different budgets. If you have to pick one beach make it Conchal, I promise you will not be disappointed!
Manual Antonio National Park - it's beautiful and the beach is one of the best that I've seen. Course, I've never been to a National Park in any country that wasn't incredible.
