if you take a bus you can be of any age... I hiked there over the summer and someone in really good shape could handle it however there were buses that went over, and a lot of flat areas of Machcu pichu.. If htey are in a wheelchair i wouldn't bring them but as long as they are in pretty moderate shape they could do it no problem |

Are they used to the highlands? keep in mind that Cusco is over 3,500 meters over sea level (11,500feet) and Macchu Picchu is over 2,500m (8,200 ft).
If they can handle the lack of oxygen, they'll be fine.
As others said...buses get you pretty close to the ruins, but you still have to walk and go up and down stairs to see the magnificence of the place.
If they are in moderate shape...they just can't miss it. If they aren't, the tourist guide will try to show you they most with the least efford. |

I was just there in October, and I think you should be in moderate shape to trek Machu Picchu. But if you are with a guide, they can scale it down a bit and visit the flatter, more easily accessible parts. I saw people of all ages visit MP, so if your parents are in moderate shape, they should be fine. |

Take the train. It is a 4 hour trip from Cusco to Machu Pichu. At the bottom of the mountain there are buses that will take you up to the top of Machu Pichu.
When they return get to the train early because all the trekers are taking the train back and seats are in demand on the train |

It is easy to visit Machu Picchu, you don't need to be very fit really. You can take the train from Cusco to the little village called Aguas Calientes, stay there and the following morning take the first bus up to the ruins. This way you could see the sight of the citadel with the first light of the day. Also you have the site only for you and the trekkers entering from the "Inka Trek" before the train arrived with a lot of people coming from Cusco. It is very important to get a professional guide. Visit the following site: www.perumarvels.com , they could help you with the arrangements. |
