Mrs. Obama rules!
Easter time is simply great in Ayacucho, a province south east of Lima, in the Highlands. There are numerous religous acts there, but even if you are not catholic, you will enjoy the traditions like the "procesiones" or kind of parades where the Image of Christ crucified goes out at night and all the people follow in prayers holding candlelights (like in Spain). There is not much to do in Lima at Easter time (as practically everyone goes out of Lima enjoying 4 days without work!), but I would definetly go to Ayacucho, or even other towns in the highlands where you will find some interesting local costumes, like Huaraz or even Cuzco.
You can enjoy Lima a day before Easter or after Easter but I recommend you spend Good Friday in Ayacucho, even Easter sunday.

Book your trip as soon as you can. Anytime traveling around Christian holidays in latin America, things book quickly!

Peruv
I've been during Easter in Peru and is simply great. But if you're a party person or just don't plan to fast (from alcohol) during those days (which is common in the highlands) go to the beach, where most of the people camp and take lots of beer, wine, etc and there are no restrictions.

Easter marks the end of the summer for Peruvians so, in the coast, most people will be at the beach. Ayacucho, the city with the hundred churches, is a place to experience the religious side of the celebration up in the Andes (beware of altitude sickness). Mancora (a beach in the north very close to the Equator) is the place to celebrate the not so religious experience, hang out at a nice beach and party.
