Although Uruguay is quite a small country (no offense!) it has green pastures and a wonderful scenary any where you go. Apart from Punta del Este (highly overrated, I prefer Jose Ignacio Beach several km away from Punta) you can visit Colinia de Sacramento which is the last Portuguese settlement in South America. There are more places to visit, once you get there you'll find out.

You should go to Colonia! I loved it. It is such a nice little town. Beaches all around...you can see the best sunset there! The streets are all cobblestone and the people are very friendly. You can even take a boat ride from Buenos Aires that only takes 45 mins. I traveled there during my study abroad to Buenos Aires and always wished we were there for more than a weekend. You'll love it!
